SLATE

The Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) launched SLATE (Strengthening Learning and Teaching Excellence) in the fall of 2007 to reaffirm and reinforce its commitment to top performance in professional education. SLATE aims to equip HKS faculty with the tools they need to teach their subject matter most effectively. SLATE’s mission has three aspects, each led by a faculty co-chair:

  1. Preparing and distributing Curricular Materials such as classic cases, teaching plans, multimedia cases, cross-disciplinary exercises, and simulations.
  2. Developing, disseminating, and recognizing Teaching Capacities required for excellence in professional-school education.
  3. Forging Assessment Tools that will help faculty gauge student learning.

The SLATE Program hosts the HKS Case Program, the world's largest producer and repository of case studies designed for teaching about how government works and how public policy is made. Our cases are written to facilitate discussion-based, interactive learning in our degree and executive education programs.
