Abstract:
This case is the story of relatively high level, white federal official who ponders how to respond to a new program idea offered by a black subordinate of whom he generally thinks highly. He is not enthusiastic, however, about a new, race-related program idea she puts forward and is concerned that his criticism will be taken for racial insensitivity. The case should provide a vehicle for discussing ways in which racial dynamics affect internal management.
