José Antonio “Tony” Gómez-Ibáñez, Derek C. Bok Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy, Emeritus passed away in June 2026. Tony was a beloved and long-time faculty member at the Harvard Kennedy School, a preeminent scholar of infrastructure and transportation policy, and a master case teacher whose contributions to the HKS Case Program and the case method are immeasurable.
"Tony was a truly great case teacher, as everyone knew. But it took me a while to figure out that what made Tony so good was less some rare classroom talent and more his lifelong habits of empathy and hard work. I think of him almost every time I prepare to teach a case." - Jack Donahue, Sr. Lecturer Public Policy, HKS
The Case Program mourns the loss of an incredible teacher and friend. Listed below is the full collection of Tony's cases, which span the globe and have been taught across the world for decades, and a video series of his wisdom on case teaching.
